NSP Athlete Program Update: A Season of Grit, Growth, and Mountain Spirit

NSP’s Athlete Program is charging ahead in its debut year, and we’re proud to share an exciting update on what’s already proving to be a powerful initiative for National Ski Patrol.

Launched to elevate the voices and visibility of patroller-athletes across the country, the NSP Athlete Program continues to build energy around the next generation of ski patrolling. It’s a bridge between our storied past and our vibrant future—supporting athletes on the slopes while showcasing the values, training, and service that define our organization. From elite competitions to community fundraisers, these athletes are helping tell the story of what it means to patrol in today’s mountain culture.

So far this winter, our athletes have competed in more than 30 events nationwide, representing NSP in states from California to Vermont. Even more impressive? They’ve placed in over half of them—proving that their skills go far beyond the patrol hill.

Dan Linden had a breakout season on the Freeride circuit with four podiums in five competitions, including two first-place finishes and a close brush with qualifying for the finals tour.

Highlights include Maddie Miller’s strong finish at the Power of 4 and her win at the Tellurando, Alex Maresjo’s championship season in the National Speed Series, and Mackenzie Case’s podium finishes at New York’s first-ever Freeride competitions.

Sam Braden put in a podium-packed season in Virginia while honoring her patrol community and completing the 90lb rucksack challenge in tribute to the 10th Mountain Division. Michelle McGee, who balanced ski patrol with early-season bike racing, took 2nd in the elite women’s division at the Kenda Cup XC despite mechanical setbacks.

Charlie Bernicke, now in his third year competed in IFSA Freeride events—representing NSP with pride.

And patrol? That stayed front and center. Whether supporting major fundraisers like LabFest, working with new patrol candidates, or responding to challenging calls on the mountain, each athlete spoke of the strong bonds formed through patrol and the deep personal meaning found in service.

We launched this program to amplify the passion, athleticism, and commitment of patrollers across the country—and it’s already creating impact. Through their words, photos, and podium finishes, these athletes are introducing NSP to new audiences and inspiring future generations to serve.

Stay tuned as we close out the season and look ahead to what's next. The NSP Athlete Program is just getting warmed up.
